It’s Five Minute Friday time! Remember you too can join in this “writing flash mob” and/or do it with your students. It’s a simple and quick free writing exercise. Read my post introducing Five Minute Friday for details on how to participate. Also, check out how to incorporate Five Minute Friday with creating interactive posters for the “Writing Process”.
Set aside five minutes of free writing time to join me on writing about “Jump”, today’s topic. Remember I’m applying my Five Minute Friday posts toward education and work, but you can write about anything about “Jump” that sparks your interest.
Having a vision and calling brings clarity to direction. Sometimes we are offered with many paths in life that we could take. Sometimes it is difficult to discern which direction to take because both avenues look promising for great things to come. During these life moments, it is important to lean on the deep beliefs within yourself of who you are made to be, who you are, what your passions are, what your visions for the future are, and most importantly what your calling is. Through reliance on these integral aspects of decision making, we can have confidence to jump…jumping into the direction that calls our name, our voice, and our beliefs of who we are and who we are made to be.
Sometimes our fears, worry, and pride hold us back. These negative emotions keep us from diving into the potential best thing that could ever be, that could ever happen for our lives. Sometimes, we have to suck up our fears, worry, and pride and say tell ourselves, “I’m going to jump. I’m going to take these first steps and believe with confidence that it is the right direction, even though I’m an scared to death.” We take a deep breathe, make a step forward, and say, “Ready, set, jump!” We tell ourselves we believe in our vision and calling because ultimately walking in that direction will make us most fulfilled. The unknown is scary, but the jump and trust in who we are and what will come, makes us stronger. The strength builds us up and prepares us for the great things around the corner in the path we take, the great thing that fulfills every being of who we are. It is the faith and hope in this that gives us certainty that it is okay to jump and that we need to jump into the unknown, even when we tell ourselves we can’t possibly do it. So…my friends…ready…set…JUMP!
Note: During Five Minute Friday, you are not supposed to stop to make any edits. Free writing without stopping is the purpose. Notice there are errors in my Five Minute Friday writing above. These errors will not be edited because editing them would defeat the purpose of Five Minute Friday. Part of the reason I’m featuring Five Minute Friday on adaptivelearnin is to teach students how to write without anxiety. I want them to see the errors to show them that errors are okay to make during free writing. I want this to be an educational experience for them. Feel free to use this or my other FMF posts as examples in lessons if you wish. Happy Friday!
